Reported as the worst drought in 20 years, the situation in Australia could be improving after rainfall and even thunder storms in some areas.
An article in the Independent is less optimistic with the threat of water supplies being turned off. The effects of this episode will last for some years especially for agriculture and industry.
The Australian government Bureau of Meteorology website provides information on Living with Drought, including data on previous drought seasons. The Australian television network ABC has brought together news stories on the 2006/7 drought called Australia in Drought.
The Intute : Science, Engineering and Technology section on Geography contains more resources on Drought which can be found by searching or browsing under the Natural Hazards heading.
The Natural Hazards service provided will also guide users to articles and resources on Drought.
