Dogs and gods

In Nepal, Hindus are celebrating Tihar, the Festival of Lights (picture courtesy of the BBC). Many people will be familiar with Diwali Festival of Lights celebrations in the UK. Nepalis have a very special way of honouring the gods at this time: dogs are garlanded with flowers, making a very colourful display. And, probably of more interest to the dogs, they are also fed with specially scrumptious meals as a way of thanking them for guarding against evil.

Intute: Veterinary has a comprehensive range of resources on dogs, (although you may not find much on dressing up your dog with flowers!). You can also find resources on Hinduism and Nepal.
