The topics deal with a “holistic approach” to archaeology (excavations, intensive surveys, material culture studies), studying all artefacts and ecofacts and including all possible geo-archaeological (geology, geomorphology, palaeo-seismology), bio-archaeological (archaeozoology, palynology, macrobotany, physical anthropology and DNA analysis) and archaeometrical (mineralogy, petrography, geochemical and isotopic analysis) disciplines. The 2nd and 3d of June are devoted to “twin projects” applying this holistic approach to the “Transition from Late Antiquity to Early Medieval Times” in Roman Britain and Gaul, Northern Italy, Greece, Bulgaria and Anatolia. The 4th of June is devoted to the application of “holistic archaeology” in projects in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. Also posters sessions are scheduled.

Speakers are: John Bintliff (Leiden), Timothy Gregory (Ohio State and Corinth excavations), Marc Waelkens (Leuven), Andrew Poulter (Nottingham), Frank Vermeulen (Ghent), Andrea Augenti (Bologna), Raymond Broulet (Louvain-la-Neuve), Tony Wilmott (English Heritage), Philip van Peer (Leuven), Thomas Frank (Cologne), Harco Willems (Leuven), Manfred Bietak (Vienna), Karel Van Lerberghe (Leuven) and Nick Marriner (Aix-en-Provence).
