The Intute: Biological Sciences section was launched this week (see Carol’s earlier posting) and during the last six months the content team have searched the Web to find freely available, high quality educational materials to support undergraduate studies in the biological sciences.
We have evaluated and included more than 600 Web resources, and in particular we wanted to improve our collection of open source teaching materials (including some collaborative resources for the biological sciences research community).
A wide variety of resource types have been evaluated and included in our collection:
- Image libraries and movies (such as the Microscope Imaging Station)
- Virtual Laboratories (such as The HHMI Virtual Immunology Lab)
- Educational Animations (such as The Virtual Cell Animation Collection)
- Tutorials (such as Construction of a DNA Library)
- Seminars (such as the American Institute of Biological Sciences Annual Meeting )
- Lectures (such as Connecting Concepts – interactive lessons in biology)
- OpenCourseware material (such as MIT OpenCourseWare Molecular Biology)
- Wiki and other Web 2.0 resources (such as MicrobeWiki and MicrobiologyBytes)
- Open access journals and full-text reports (such as BMC Cell Biology)
You can either search or browse for content and if you would like us to evaluate a resource for possible inclusion, then please do submit it.
If you want to keep up-to-date with what is being added to the collection, then why not subscribe to our latest additions RSS News Feed?
