Organic TV dinners

Posted October 14th, 2009 by Peter Hoare

Is Saturday night TV so pathetic because TV companies think that everyone’s gone out so it doesn’t matter – or does everyone go out because Saturday night TV is rubbish? Twitters only please.

Sunday night however, when we should all be having an early night so as to get first in the dole queue on Monday morning, is full of interest –although the juxtaposition of Top Gear on BBC2 with Charles Darwin on C4 does make you seriously reconsider the theory of evolution.

For those interested in agriculture, don’t miss Countryfile giving you the thinking man’s answer to crumpet – organic biscuits. It seems we are falling out of love with organic food, so John Craven goes Newsround for the reason. Could it be that it’s more expensive and now we are all living on incomes less than an MP’s window cleaning bill, we have to watch the pennies?

And then we have news item when harassed mum of three (or was it four? Maybe she knows but I can’t remember) is asked to buy organic to test her kids’ taste buds. And WOW! They prefer organic sweet corn at twice the price to the Tesco budget plastic shrink-wrapped.

Anyway, the organic industry is fighting back with the Organic Trade Board which describes itself as “a not for profit organisation” – well that’s a relief; we wouldn’t want those organic people making money out of us. It’s an interesting site and worth a visit – as is Intute’s list of organic food and agriculture online resources, which you can find by clicking here.
