World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated every year on the 14th November and this global awareness campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation and member associations.
The theme of this year’s campaign is diabetes education and prevention, and WDD is celebrated on the 14th November to mark the birthday of Frederick Grant Banting who along with Charles Herbert Best conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922. See this classic article titled “The preparation of Insulin” published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 1923.
Do you want to be kept up-to-date on all the latest WDD activities? Then why not subscribe to their newsfeed or use some of the WDD social media tools - they have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and MySpace.
Intute has more than 300 Web resources on diabetes, for students, academics, healthcare professionals and the public, all available from here and the BBC Health website has some personal stories from those affected by diabetes.
