This weeks Romanians have been at the polls in presidential elections.
Here are some recommended resources from Intute for finding out more.
The Romanian Election authority has an excellent site in English. It includes results and background information on the electoral system.
Balkan insight is a news service maintained by Balkan Investigative Reporting Network. It provides coverage of recent economic, political and human rights developments in countries of the Balkans region. It has some news stories.
The Diplomat (Bucharest) also has some recent news coverage as does See Europe and Mediafax Romania.
The OSCE website has reports from its election observation mission. There are also materials relating from all earlier elections from 1996 onwards.
Other assessments of the state of democracy in Romania can be found on the Pro democracy website (Romanian civil society organisation) and the NDI which focused specifically on discrimination against Roma.

It’s the biggest theft in the Romanian history since the communists stole the elections after WWII. The people, at least in Bucharest, are hugely depressed because, although we corrected the mistake we made at the euro parlamentary election when not even 40% of the population voted (which allowed for Ms Elena Basescu to become an europarliamentary with only 70 000 votes) and showerd up to vote, our wish didn’t make any difference. Basescu’s cronies stole our votes in so many ways that it is painful.
