Posted November 26th, 2009 by Anne Reed

The inaugural Undergraduate Mathematics Conference “Tomorrow’s Mathematicians Today” will be hosted by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the University of Greenwich at the University of Greenwich on Saturday 6 February 2010.

The keynote speech will be given by Professor Ian Stewart and the aim is for undergraduates to give short presentations (maximum 20 minutes) about areas of mathematics which excite them. Abstracts of proposed presentations should be submitted to tmt@gre.ac.uk by 18 December 2009. Authors will be informed of the outcome by the beginning of January 2010.

The conference is free to participants but departments whose students are benefiting are asked to make a contribution of £10 per student (up to a maximum of £100) as a contribution towards the costs.

This is a great signpost for what promises to be an important event. It’s local to London and Kent/Surrey, has the backing of 3 important organisations (counting the London Mathematical Society as one) and a world-class keynote speaker in Ian Stewart. Here’s hoping it attracts good papers and quality media coverage.
