Deciphering the Genetic Code : Marshall Nirenberg is an online exhibit dedicated to Marshall Nirenberg, made available on the Web by the United States Office of National Institutes of Healths (NIH) Office of NIH History. Nirenberg was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work in breaking the genetic code in 1961. The exhibition provides an overview and history of research into DNA and concentrates on the role played by Nirenberg. The website includes a section of biographies for other prominent scientists who have played significant roles in researching DNA. The Scientific Instruments section contains information and photographs of a range of scientific instruments that were donated to the museum by Nirenberg. There is also a glossary of terms used and selection of links to other websites of interest. The material was written by Sarah A. Leavitt,and produced by the Stetten Museum, Office of NIH History, in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

The website of the Dewitt Stetten Jr. Museum of Medical Research, at the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Museum was established in 1986 as part of the NIH centennial observance and collects and exhibits biomedical research instruments and NIH memorabilia. The website contains a number of online exhibitions, which at the time of cataloguing (January 2005) included exhibitions on Marshall Nirenberg, human genetics, cell research, the early years of AIDS research, pain research at the NIH, pellagra, drugs as medicines, medical posters and medical instruments. The Historical resources section contains frequently asked questions about researching the history of the NIH, a short bibliography of references relating to the history of the NIH and links to other online resources relating to NIH history. This section also provides full-text access to Melissa Klein's The legacy of the Yellow Berets: the Vietnam War, the doctor draft and the NIH Associate training programme and DeWitt Stetten's How my light is spent: the memoirs of DeWitt Stetten Jr. Information about fellowship and grant opportunities is provided. This website makes available digital versions of archival collections of prominent 20th century biomedical scientists and public health specialists. The collections were donated to the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and incorporate both published and unpublished materials, including books and journals, pamphlets, diaries, manuscripts and audio-visual materials. The website is divided into three sections: Biomedical Research, Health & Medicine and Fostering Science & Health. The scientists represented within the Biomedical Research section include Linus Pauling, Barbara McClintock, Marshall Nirenberg, Christian Anfinsen, Julius Axelrod, Martin Rodbell, Joshua Lederberg, Oswald T. Avery, Donald S. Fredrickson and Florence R. Sabin. For each scientist there is a list of materials available, a finding aid and an exhibition. The Public Health section includes biographical information for Fred L. Soper and a selection of official reports and conference reports from the Office of the Surgeon General. This section also includes a selection of public health posters originally included in an exhibit at the NLM sponsored Visual Culture and Public Health symposium, held in October 2003. The Fostering Science & Health section incorporates archival material from the Regional Medical Program (RMP) which ran from 1964 to 1976. The documents themselves are in a number of formats, including Adobe PDF for some documents and Apple QuickTime and RealPlayer for moving pictures.
