The Bank began operations in December 1966 and is based in Manila, Philippines. The home page provides links to extensive information and economic details about the member countries. Baltic 21 is an Agenda 21 for the Baltic Sea region, and is a long term programme by the 11 countries belonging to the Council of the Baltic Sea States, together with the European Commission and other international bodies. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) was created following the June 2001 election. It comprises the former Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), Wildlife and Countryside Directorate and a number of other bodies concerned with rural life and environmental protection. DEFRA is the UK government department concerned with improving the economic development of the agricultural industry and the countryside in general. As well as this, the department is concerned with public health and safety, production of food, animal welfare and the rural environment. The Departmental Report offers greater detail on the remit for the department as well as detailing its expenditure plans. The site covers a number of key areas: farming; public and animal health; food; fisheries; and environment. Each area contains a short summary of the industry and links to related sites. The department relies on scientific research to inform policy development and it is possible to access research publications from this site. The website gives information about Ecobilan's services and methods, eg. Life Cycle Assessment. The are short explanations and screenshots of their software products. Although this is a commercial site, it gives an interesting insight into strategic environmental management and consultancy. The website is in French or English.
