ASEM Infoboard

ASEM Infoboard is the website of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), officially established in 1996, is an interregional forum which consists of members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan, South Korea and the members of the European Union. There are three main themes to the meeting process - political dialogue, security and the economy, and education and culture. The aim of the process is to deepen the relations between Asia and Europe at all levels to achieve a more balanced political and economic world order. The site gives access to publications, official documents, reports of ASEM bi-annual meetings and details of partnership programmes and related institutions.

"Asian Economic Journal provides detailed coverage of a wide range of topics in economics relating to East Asia, including investigation of current research, international comparisons and country studies." It publishes theoretical, empirical and policy oriented material. It is published on behalf of the East Asian Economic Association and appears quarterly. Articles cover subjects such as deregulation, exchange rates, labour market reform in China and fiscal policy. The full-text version is only available for subscribers, but contents lists and abstracts are available to anyone.

Asian Economic Policy Review is a peer reviewed journal produced by the Japan Centre for Economic Research, a collection of economists in business, academia and government in Japan. It covers international economics and economic policy, with a primary focus on Asia. Emphasis is placed on identifying key issues at the time - spanning international trade, international finance, the environment, energy, the integration of regional economies and other issues. It is one of a small number of English-language journals that provide a bridge between Japan and Asia, between academia and policy circles, and between economics and the politics of economic policy. It is published twice a year through Blackwell Publishing and full text is available to subscribers.

Bursting at the Seams is a series of audio lectures delivered by Professor Jeffrey Sachs on BBC Radio. Sachs is the Director of The Earth Institute, at Columbia University and from 2002 to 2006 he was also Director of the UN Millennium Project and Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Millennium Development Goals. Sachs argues that the world faces challenges on an unprecedented scale - the destruction of the planet through global warming, terrorism, extreme poverty, disease and bad governance. The five lectures are available as audio downloads from the website, with accompanying transcripts, further reading and links. The lectures are the 2007 contribution to the Leith series in honour of the first Director General of the BBC, John Reith.
