Antropología visual de un rito nupcial, by Demetrio E. Brisset

http://www.ugr.es/~pwlac/G18_02DemetrioE_Brisset_Martin.html

Starting from the anthropological postulate that the institution of marriage is fundamental to society, this work deals with the complex of marriage rituals framed by normative models of gender coexistence. The article makes use of several events that affected Spaniards in 1997, particularly the spectacular publicity surrounding the wedding of 'La Infanta Cristina', an (adult) member of Spanish royalty. The televised retransmission of this ceremony is analyzed in the context of changes in behaviour in Spanish society which is moving away from classical monogamy, the sacredness of marriage within the Catholic liturgy and the royal and popular celebrations that accompanied the wedding. The author is at the University of Malaga and the article, which is in Spanish, is published in the e journal Gazeta de Antropologia, No. 18, 2002.
