1901 Census for England and Wales

This is the official genealogy site of the 1901 Census for England and Wales. The census is taken every 10 years by the government to collect information on the population of the United Kingdom. The 1901 Census for England and Wales was taken on 31 March 1901. Census returns are held by The National Archives, the providers of this website. Users of the site can search the data for a person (by surname or forename) or a place, vessel or institution. Searching of the index is free though there is a charge for viewing transcribed data or digital images of the census pages. Information on all individuals, plus institutions such as prisons, workhouses, naval vessels and merchant vessels were accounted for providing details such as where individuals lived, their age, relations, place of birth and occupation in addition to other circumstantial information. Registered users can then view, print and save a typed transcript or an image of the original handwritten page.

The UK Government 2001 Census of Population White paper (Cm 4253) presented to Parliament by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, the Secretary of State for Scotland, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland by Command of her Majesty, March 1999. The paper sets out the Government's proposals for " ... the twentieth Census in a series carried out every 10 years (except 1941) in Great Britain since 1801, and the eighteenth to be carried out in Northern Ireland." The proposed date for the 2001 Census is 29 April.

The Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Statistics is an official body concerned with the management of state statistics. The structure of the Agency includes the following divisions: Republican State enterprise - information and computer centre; Republican State enterprise, 'Kazstatinform'; the closed joint-stock company, 'Almaty Institute of Economy and Statistics.' Data is provided in tabular form and gives the main socio-economic indicators, as well as the indices of main macroeconomic indicators for Kazakhstan. Indices of the main socio-economic indicators and industrial production are updated monthly. Data is disseminated by the Agency according to IMF Standard using the General Data Dissemination System (GDDS) which, "promotes dissemination of reliable, complete and timely economic, financial and socio-demographic data to provide transparency of macroeconomic results and policy." GDDS has a hierarchical structure with a comprehensive framework on the first level, and data categories and indicators covering four economic sectors (real, fiscal, financial and external), on the second level. Main socio-demographic indicators are also presented. The Agency produces various statistical publications in the form of statistical yearbooks, collections, handbooks, magazines and bulletins and these are listed on the website. Topics covered by the publications include: national accounts; agriculture; industrial production; construction; retail and wholesale; prices; households; employment; demography. A database of these publications may be accessed by registered users. Also includes a map of the Republic noting territory, currency, population, and population density.
