This is the website of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Air-sea Interaction and Climate research group. The main objectives of the research group are to take an interdisciplinary approach to applying space-based observations, ground-based measurements, and numerical models to study the coupled ocean-atmosphere system. This resource provides information regarding the credibility of abrupt climate change theories, drawing upon ice core evidence and theories of ocean circulation as well as a consideration of Milankovitch orbital cyclicity. The site also provides an animation of the ocean circulation system.

Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT)

This site gives access to information from the Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) programme, a project for the collection of "biological, optical, physical and water quality data from a wide range of oceanographic provinces through the Atlantic Ocean". Full access to the data is only available to AMT members, however, lists of contents of the data files can be browsed freely. Public access is also given to cruise reports and lists of other AMT publications. The AMT was initiated by the Plymouth Marine Laboratory and is operated in collaboration with the British Antarctic Survey, the Southampton Oceanographic Center and the University of Plymouth. It makes use of the royal research ship, James Clark Ross, in its trips to BAS research stations, to perform '"undamental oceanographic research during the passage legs between the UK and the Falklands".

The main scientific mission of the laboratory consists of observational and modelling studies of the radiative and climatic properties of the atmosphere, clouds, aerosols, and the ocean. Beyond the Golden Gate : Oceanography, Geology, Biology, and Environmental Issues in the Gulf of the Farallones

This is a major geologic and oceanographic study, undertaken by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on the Gulf of the Farallones in the San Francisco Bay region. The main aim of this study was to establish a scientific database for an area of 3,400 square kilometres on the Continental Shelf adjacent to the San Francisco Bay region. The results of this study can be used to evaluate and monitor human impact on the marine environment. The study, which was edited by Herman A Karl et al, is published in PDF format, and can be downloaded either in a short version for a general audience or in a longer technical version. There are also links to all the chapters, which can be downloaded individually.

CLIWOC : Climatological Database for the World's Oceans 1750-1850
