Alternatively, the user may access the site's suggestive anthologies, such as: 'Poesía Sensual' (Sensual Poetry); and 'Poesía de Oro' (Golden Poetry), a selection of great poems from the Spanish 'Romancero' to the end of the twentieth century. Cantar de mio Cid

This award-winning website is dedicated to the medieval Spanish epic poem, the 'Cantar de mio Cid'. It aims to allow students of the epic to understand and appreciate the oral essence of the genre and the 'conceptual difference between an oral narrative poem and the modern textual editions'. Using slides of the original manuscript from Madrid's Biblioteca Nacional (where it is housed), the site allows the user to view the manuscript online in various formats. An English translation may be viewed alongside the various Spanish transcriptions. The site user may then hear an oral rendition of the poem, lasting about 5 hours. The site's introduction offers an overview of El Cid. The project's methodology is detailed on the site, including a brief history of the poem, explanations of linguistic differences between old and modern Spanish. Miniature illustrations, reflecting the poem's events, are also included to enhance the listener/reader's appreciation. All images on the site are referenced and explained. Equally, detailed information about the software required for the different viewings is provided.
