Action needed to save the coastline : National Trust Wales

http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-global/w-localtoyou/w-wales/w-wales-

This Web page provides access to a report published by the National Trust which examines the effects of rising sea levels on those areas of the Welsh coastline owned by the Trust. A sea level rise of 1m that is predicted to occur over the next century and an increase in storm frequency could have damaging effects on National Trust coastal sites. This report addresses these concerns and attempted to raise public awareness of them, so that they can be approached in a sustainable manner. The full report can be downloaded as a PDF file and is available in both Welsh and English.

Africa - up in smoke? 2 : an update report on Africa and global warming from the Working Group on Climate Change and Development

http://www.oxfam.org.uk/what_we_do/resources/downloads/Africa%20Up%20in%20S

This web pages provides access to an Oxfam report which brings up to date the original report from the Working Group on Climate Change and Development, Africa –Up in Smoke?, released in 2005 which is also available to download. It discusses issues around the importance of rainfall to African communities. Climate change is discussed as a threat for both water usage and temperature control. Therefore this report stresses the need for “A new model of development, one in which strategies to increase human resilience in the face of climate changes and the stability of ecosystems are central". It also calls for a new test for policy-making and project work in development. This report presents new scientific research and evidence which finds that the climate change threat to human development in Africa is even greater than originally thought. Full reports are available to download in WORD or PDF format.

This BBC World Service Poll is made available on the World Public Opinion website of the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) at the University of Maryland. 22,000 people in 21 countries, including developing countries, were polled on their opinion about human activity's effects on global warming and whether strong action should be taken. This report, in PDF format, presents the results in highlights and detailed findings. Using graphs and charts, the answers to the questionnaire are presented and broken down by country. Questions asked covered the impact of human activity's effects on global warming, the type of action required to reverse the effects, and whether people think they are well informed about climate change.

ANDRILL : Antarctic Geological Drilling

http://www.andrill.org/

"ANDRILL (ANtarctic geological DRILLing) is a multinational collaboration comprised of more than 200 scientists, students, and educators from five nations (Germany, Italy, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States) to recover stratigraphic records from the Antarctic margin using Cape Roberts Project (CRP) technology. The chief objective is to drill back in time to recover a history of paleoenvironmental changes that will guide our understanding of how fast, how large, and how frequent were glacial and interglacial changes in the Antarctica region. Future scenarios of global warming require guidance and constraint from past history that will reveal potential timing frequency and site of future changes." The ANDRILL website provides details of research projects and the underlying technology, publications, educational resources and activities, and project news.

Atmocean

http://www.atmocean.com/

Atmocean is a US based company which is developing a "wave-driven ocean upwelling system to cool the upper ocean and enhance natural biological processes to absorb CO2". The aim of the system is to deploy equipment across ocean regions which have been identified as critical in the climate change process. It is hoped that research will show that the Atmocean technology will help to fight global warming by sequestering significant amounts of carbon dioxide on the ocean floor. It may also help to reduce hurricane intensity, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, and also help to revive the ocean fisheries. The website hosts video footage, animations, and FAQ, and provides other information on biological ocean sequestration of CO2, and hurricane intensity reduction.
