Centre for Research and Development (CRD) : Faculty of Arts & Architecture, University of Brighton

http://artsresearch.brighton.ac.uk/

The Centre for Research and Development website is run by the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts and Architecture. The centre was established in 1998 as a hub for researchers in architecture, design, performing arts and humanities. The site showcases the research work done at the centre, as well as advertising upcoming events, such as lectures and exhibitions taking place in the department. There is also one of the most comprehensive and useful architecture links pages on the internet, with a large number of interesting websites ranging from well known magazines to museums and unusual projects. There are also links pages for other disciplines, including digital resources, the visual arts, fashion, and a particularly thorough one for critical studies. The resource is provided by the CRD, and so it is advertising the most positive aspects of itself to encourage the enrolment of students, researchers and staff. However, it presents a generous amount of information from staff members' research portfolios, (accessed through the "research" page), that make it an interesting and informative site in its own right. In fact, this section is really an online gallery of design research projects and is therefore unusual and a good place for students to find inspiration for their own projects. The accompanying images and photographs are beautiful - indeed, the whole site, created by Cogapp, is attractive and clear to read and to use.
