| Description: | Published by the British Library, this website provides biographical information about the composer Elisabeth Lutyens and an outline of her musical career. Daughter of the Edwardian architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and Lady Emily Lytton, Lutyens showed a talent for musical composition at an early age and entered the Royal College of Music in 1926. Over her lifetime, she composed over 200 works including operas, concert pieces, scores for films and radio plays and abstract works. Her music manuscripts were acquired by the British Library in 1986 and enlargeable images from pages of her manuscripts are shown on the website. Also provided are discussions of some of the composer's works, with the facility to listen to samples (for which software is required). |
