| Description: | China Gateway is a collection of annotated gateways of relevance to undergraduate students and their teachers. Although primarily meant as a study aid for the students of Boston College, China Gateway aims to offer a concise introduction to the manner in which developments in the digital world have aided the study of Chinese culture and society. From the Culture and History section of the main page, users will find links to gateways (themed in sections), covering: geography and maps; language and literature; introductions to Chinese Studies; history, politics and society; medicine; religion; news and media; libraries and archives; and visual and performing arts. Each link is annotated with basic information about the resource, and selected websites encompass bibliographic resources, online projects, and university libraries and departments. In addition, users will find a reference section (the 'Historical Toolkit'), which presents basic undergraduate-level learning modules on China's dynasties, 1920s calendar advertisements, and images from the Dianshizhai Pictorial. Separate sections contain textual information on studying China at Boston College, and resources for researchers of Chinese studies in the city (many of which include further gateways to other online resources). China Gateway would be of interest to any tutors of undergraduate level Chinese Studies in search of learning resources and starting points for their students. Its selection of gateways is well-organised, and avoids the endless unannotated lists of websites common to similar resources. |
