| Title: | Newton project |
|---|---|
| Description: | The website of the Newton project, which originated in 1998 at Imperial College, London, and aims to make available transcriptions of the theological, alchemical and administrative manuscripts of Sir Isaac Newton. The site provides details of the project, including its editorial principles and technical aspects. At the same time, it explores the legacy of Newton in terms of his lesser known interests in theology (he was a staunch anti-Catholic), and alchemy. Overall, the site aims to add substantially to our understanding of his life and work. The 'Catalogue of theological, alchemical and administrative manuscripts of Isaac Newton', is arranged by subject and provides descriptions of collections of Newton manuscripts dispersed throughout the world. At present there is a small selection of manuscript transcripts which may be viewed. The transcriptions have been encoded in XML, and to view them it is necessary to use Internet Explorer, versions 5 and upwards. |
