| Description: | The website Harry Martinson-sällskapet (Harry Martinson society) contains detailed and up-to-date information about resources for the study and appreciation of the Swedish poet, novelist and playwright Harry Martinson (1904-1978). Martinson is most highly regarded for his nature poetry, autobiographical narratives, and his futuristic cycle of 103 poems, Aniara (1956). He received the Nobel Prize in 1974. The site carries news of recent critical studies, translations and new editions of Martinson's work, and there are links to selected magazine and journal articles containing material about the poet. The latest issue of the membership newsletter, Doris, is downloadable from the site in PDF-format. There is a biographical chronology of Martinson and a full bibliography of his publications. The site is of greatest use to those with a specialised interest in Swedish literature, or to poetry enthusiasts with a knowledge of Martinson's native language - his work does not translate easily. However the site does include a link to an introductory article on Martinson in English by Ulf Larsson, curator of the Nobel Museum; and a brief presentation, also in English, produced to mark the 2004 centennial of the poet's birth. |
