|---|---|
| Description: | On this resource Raine Koskimaa has made available the full-text of her PhD thesis entitled, "Digital Literature: From Text to Hypertext and Beyond" (University of Jyväskylä, Finland, 2000). The thesis is a study of hypertext within the context of digitisation and cyberculture (hence the use of 'cybertext'). The thesis provides an overview of hypertext systems and cybertext theory; examines selected print novels from the point of view of hypertext; multi-layered narrative in hypertext fiction; the use of navigation within hypertext fiction (especially within selected works of Michael Joyce, Stuart Moulthrop and Shelley Jackson); and the development of new reading habits through hypertext works. The author concludes with observations on the convergence of hypertext and, for example, virtual reality and computer games. Chapters and sections of the thesis are accessed via frames and a Javascript-based navigation system. A bibliography of works consulted is also provided. |
