The International Institute for the Study of Cuba is an initiative by a team of UK located academics, specialists and consultants with the object of providing an in-depth and focused appraisal of the Cuban 'Social Experience' as it approaches and undergoes another period of major change. This includes discussion of the post Fidel Castro era. It was launched in 2007. The website offers free access to news about its publications, events and ongoing research about Cuban politics, economics and society. This document is part of the transcription of significant documents in American history by the Avalon Project of the Yale Law School. This is the full text of a lease agreement between the governments of the United States of America and the Republic of Cuba, subject to terms to be agreed at a later date. "For the time required" Cuba agrees to lease land for coaling and naval stations to the USA within specified areas: Guantanamo, Bahia Honda, and the peninsula of Cerro del Morillo and Punta del Carenero. The US also has rights to use and occupy the adjacent waters, maintaining free passage for Cuban vessels, and including the rights to improve access. Cuban sovereignty is to be retained, but the United States has jurisdiction over these areas, and has the right to acquire land and property within these areas. The document was signed by President T Estrada Palma of Cuba and President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States in Habana on 16th February 1903.

The Truth About Cuba Committee was a non-profit organization established by Cuban exiles in Miami in 1961 for the purpose of disseminating information about communist Cuba and its role in promoting communism throughout Latin America. The digital collection provides free access to over over 390,000 pages of testimony, pamphlets, photographs, clippings, correspondence, and visual and audio recordings from 1961 to 1975, when the organization disbanded. They are made available on the Internet via the University of Miami website. Key topics covered include: discussion of Fidel Castro, US policy towards Cuba and Communist rule. The Helms Burton Act is a piece of US legislation which proposes an embargo on foreign companies who trade with Cuba and a ban on using any property which formerly belonged to US citizens but has been confiscated by the Castro regime since 1959. The paper provides an overview of the economic and political situation in Cuba since 1959, including United States and Cuba trade relations. It then examines the provisions of the act, its consequences and international responses to it from the United Kingdom, the United Nations and the European Union.
