Dictionary of African Christian biography

The Dictionary of African Christian Biography (DACB) is a free online reference resource aiming to record the untold stories of African Christians who have impacted the history of the African church, and of Christianity more widely. Presented as an electronic database browsable by name of subject or region, it covers all denominations and branches of African Christianity, including the missionary movement, from earliest times to the present. The DACB aims to foster an understanding of African Christianity in its own right, as something more than simply a footnote to the story of the faith in Europe. Versions of the site are available in English, French, Portuguese, and Swahili. The Dictionary is a work in progress, but it already offers a considerable quantity of interesting material.

Taller Hispano

'Taller Hispano' is a bank of Spanish exercises originally created by the United States Air Force Academy, and maintained by Dr. Jean W. LeLoup from the State University of New York at Cortland. The site is an excellent complement of Spanish language courses, both for students wanting further practice and tutors looking for extra activities. As there are no explanations and solutions to the exercises are not provided 'Taller Hispano' is not, however, suitable for self-study. Contents are organised thematically in several categories, such as: family; leisure time; eating and drinking; and travelling. Although activities are varied, listening materials of Latin-American Spanish are very recommendable. Additionally, reading exercises have been designed by directing students to authentic materials (mainly other websites). The authors of the site do not mention the level of the activities, but they might complement beginners and post-beginners courses.

'Spanish-Books.net' is an online history of Spanish literature written, both in English and Spanish, by Dr. Miguel Pérez Rosado. The site covers three main periods: medieval age; Golden Age; and contemporary literature. Each of this periods is in turn divided into: poetry; theatre; and prose. However, at the time of cataloguing, some of the subsections were still under construction. Explanations are rather short, but clear and concise. Accompanied by a high number of images, this website will be useful for those just starting to study Spanish literature. Also extremely useful for students will be the full text of the masterpiece, Don Quijote de la Mancha, available both in Spanish and English. The text is indexed by chapters and volume. A biography section conveniently brings together the life and work of some of the most important Spanish authors between the medieval period and 19th century, such as: Gonzalo de Berceo; Fernando de Rojas; Calderón; Quevedo; Cervantes; Lope de Vega; and Bécquer.

Amaltea : Contemporary Mythic Anthropology

'Amaltea' is an academic research team at the Universidad Complutense (Madrid) dedicated to the study of the impact of myths in contemporary European literatures. By this the directors of the team mean any mythical narrative, image and symbol which has been reformulated; translated; and re-developed in different manners since the end of the 19th century across the continent. Myths may include: themes of Greek and Roman mythologies; medieval and modern characters and symbols (such as Don Juan; Fausto; and the Holy Grail); as well as recurrent topics and images in European intellectual history and representations of social configurations. The main activity organised by Amaltea is a monthly meeting during which a particular myth is discussed. Details of the current and past programmes can be accessed on the site. Those not residing in Madrid can, nonetheless, download the full text of all interventions (in Spanish only). A very good links section will further interest those researching the significance of myths in European literatures.
